2008 Child Restraint Juvenile Seatbelt Study

The purpose of the project was to conduct a comprehensive survey of child safety restraint system usage and seat belt usage for juveniles for the State of Colorado in 2008. Observations for child car seat and juvenile seat belt usage were conducted over a two-week period from June 15 to June 28 immediately following the 2008 Statewide Survey. The study was conducted by the Institute of Transportation Management, College of Business, Colorado State University, under the sponsorship of the Colorado Department of Transportation, Office of Transportation Safety. Observational data were collected and analyzed by the Institute of Transportation Management.

A seat belt usage assessment of 16 to 20 year old drivers and front seat passengers of non-commercial vehicles in the State of Colorado was conducted by the Institute of Transportation Management (ITM) from April 7 through April 18, 2008. The study was sponsored by the Colorado Department of Transportation, Safety and Traffic Engineering Branch, Occupant Protection Program and involved observations at 208 sites in 17 counties across the State of Colorado.

2008 Statewide Seat Belt Usage Final Report

The primary objective of this study was to conduct a comprehensive statewide seat belt usage survey in order to determine the usage rate for the State of Colorado in 2008. The statewide survey was conducted in the same month (June) as preceding surveys with essentially the same observer staff as used in previous studies in order to leverage the training and experience and to maintain statistical confidence in the data-gathering task.

2010 CDOT Teen Seat Belt Survey

A seat belt usage assessment of teen drivers and teen front seat outboard passengers of non-commercial vehicles in the State of Colorado was conducted by the Institute of Transportation Management (ITM) from May 3 through May 14, 2010. The study was sponsored by the Colorado Department of Transportation, Office of Transportation Safety, Occupant Protection Program and involved observations at 206 sites in 18 counties across the State of Colorado. Specifically, teen drivers and teen front seat outboard passengers were observed for seat belt usage within cars, vans, sport utility vehicles (SUVs), and light trucks normally used for personal transportation. Commercial vehicles were excluded from this survey.

2012 CDOT Pre-Mobilization Seat Belt Survey

In May 2012, the Institute of Transportation Management of Colorado State University conducted a pre-mobilization seat belt usage assessment in the State of Colorado. The study was sponsored by the Colorado Department of Transportation, Office of Transportation Safety and involved observations at 221 sites in 29 counties across the State of Colorado. The survey was conducted from May 13 through 19, 2012, as a β€œpre-enforcement wave” study, and included drivers and front seat outboard passengers within cars, vans, sport utility vehicles (SUVs), light trucks, and select commercial vehicles 10,000 pounds and under.
